My mother was brought up in Morocco and she held onto the traditional beauty rituals that she was brought up with. I inherited these native skincare traditions that I still use today.

Each summer we would travel to Morocco for our holidays and on our return, my parents would fill their luggage and bring back skincare products that they could never find in the UK. So at a young age, I was fully accustomed to the Moroccan made products lying around the house.

In Morocco, the timeless ritual of beauty starts with Hammam, a traditional steam bath which symbolises purity and cleanliness. It is not just a bathing ritual, but an opportunity for relaxation and rejuvenation. The Hammam ritual comprises of three stages: the purifying steam bath, followed by the application of a natural black soap made from black olives and olive oil to cleanse the skin, and finally, an exfoliation using a exfoliating mitt to remove dead skin cells.

Another essential element of Moroccan beauty rituals is the use of Argan oil. This oil, often referred to as 'liquid gold', is rich in vitamin E and essential fatty acids. It is not only used for skincare, but also for hair and nail care. My mother used to apply Argan oil on my hair and skin, and the results were always incredible. It moisturises and nourishes the skin, providing it with a healthy, glowing look, so I was not surprised when it became a worldwide phenomenon.

The Pure Natural Mineral clay is mined in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco. It has been used by Moroccan women for centuries for skin and hair care. When mixed with water, it becomes a silky mud which can be used as a face mask, body wrap, or shampoo. It is rich in magnesium, silica, potassium, and calcium, which nourish the skin and hair.

Then there is the traditional Moroccan rose water, used for its soothing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is often used as a toner, to calm the skin and reduce redness. My mother used to spray rose water on my face after a long day in the sun, and I still use it today for its refreshing scent and soothing effects.

The journey begins in a small village outside of Agadir called Taroudant. It was there that I discovered my grandmother owned land which grew Argan trees and other organic sourced products.

We travelled to the village hidden within the mountains many times when I was much
younger. I returned to the village hidden within the mountains just before the start of the business and realised that I inherited this magnificent land with a rich agriculture. It was if, trading in Argan oil was destined for me and felt incredibly privileged to have such a close insight into how amazing this oil is produced. I was even more intrigued to find out more about the other products I have used the majority of my life.

We travelled and researched on the methods used to create the products, how they were made and where they originated from. We learnt that different cities within Morocco had various skincare rituals that have been used for centuries. We gained an understanding of the ingredients, how they were grown, picked and handled and how they became the end product. The ingredients are all natural and there is no manufacturing on a large scale but more hand made products are produced. Although there is more labour, the native processes to make these natural Moroccan products are what make them special.

Supporting small and local farmers in Morocco is not only important for the preservation of ancient native processes, but it also helps the local economy thrive. By purchasing from these farmers, we can ensure that their unique skills and knowledge are passed down to future generations.
